FAQS

Why is span test prep better than other act/sat prep courses?

Span Test Prep is the most efficient and effective prep course in the country, offering one-on-one sessions for the ACT/SAT that are customized to fit each student’s needs.  Students will take full-length practice tests and individually meet with a tutor after each test, reviewing every mistake and developing a strategy that is unique to the student’s strengths and weaknesses. Span Test Prep knows that students are incredibly busy, so it has created a program that can fit into any student’s schedule.

how many courses are there and how often do they meet?

Since Span Test Prep is customized for each student, courses can start and end at any time. Courses are generally planned with a specific ACT or SAT dates in mind so that students are prepared and confident at the perfect time. The typical student will sign up for one of the four courses - fall, winter, spring, or summer - but a build-your-own option is always available. Every course has 6 or 8 sessions, but students can finish those sessions as quickly or as slowly as their schedule allows.

does span test prep offer classroom meetings to take the practice act/sats?

Yes, Span Test Prep offers classroom meetings for students that want to take the full-length practice tests in an environment similar to the real ACT/SAT. These take place during different times of the year and are free for registered students.

where do the classes meet?

Span Test Prep is located at 1121 Lake Cook Rd, Deerfield, IL. However, tutors are flexible and can meet at almost any location in the Chicago and greater-Chicago area.

how do you prepare students who receive special accommodations for the act/sat?

Span Test Prep always asks if students have accommodations, and prepares the students with that in mind. For example, if a student gets time-and-a-half, Span Test Prep makes sure to discuss the appropriate way to pace the test. The goal is for every student to complete the test in the specific time allotted for that student.

will this program help if my student is not a good test taker?

Absolutely! Anyone can improve their score, no matter what their ability. Span Test Prep prepares the student at their own pace, allowing them to maximize their test-taking potential. In fact, since Span Test Prep develops a unique plan for every student, we are able to help any student, regardless of their baseline score or test-taking ability

how many times should a student take the act or sat?

As many times as they like, but most students take a test three or four times. When reporting scores to colleges, students get to choose which tests to report, so if a student receives a low score on one of the tests, colleges do not have to see that score.

can students use the ti-nspire on the act?

Yes, the TI-Nspire calculator is allowed, but the TI-Nspire CAS is prohibited. Many students still use the TI-83 or TI-84 calculator during the test, and those work fine as well. The SAT allows the use of any calculator, including the TI-Nspire CAS during the Math section that allows the use of a calculator. There is a section that prohibits the use of any calculator on the SAT.

do colleges prefer whether students take the act or the sat?

No, colleges accept both tests equally, so it is up to the student to decide which test they are most comfortable taking.

does span test prep offer preparation for the writing sections of the act/sat?

Yes, Span Test Prep offers comprehensive preparation for both updated writing sections of the ACT and SAT, if the student decides to take the writing sections.
